My Dominican Experience
This page is dedicated to all the amazing undergrad opportunities and experiences I have had while at Dominican University.
Once a Penguin, always a Penguin.
Once a Penguin, always a Penguin.
My first year at Dominican, I enrolled in a class called Mastering College. In this course, I learned to basically survive college. I acquired the skills and tools to build the skills of: time management, budgeting, conflict resolution, interacting with faculty & staff, self-care, study tips, and so much more. Little did I know, that this course would encourage me to enroll in Mentor Training. Taking this course allowed me to apply to become a Peer Mentor. I was very interested in this position, because my orientation mentors really supported me in having a smooth, fun transition into college and I wanted to offer the same support to incoming first year students.
Upon taking these two courses, I applied to become a Peer Mentor... and... drumroll please... I got the position! (: The 2019-2020 academic year is my 3rd year being a peer mentor. |
Fall 2018, I was accepted to be a Peer Portfolio Fellow.
This position consisted of being an expert on and advocate of the digital portfolio component of the Dominican Experience. Through this position, I was teaching in classrooms how to create and curate a digital portfolio via google i-sites. I collaborated with faculty members and fellow peers to come up ideas that could shape a rubric for the digital portfolio that all students can have, aside from their department specific rubrics. The photo to the left is with (left) Christina Mayes, digital portfolio specialist and portfolio fellows supervisor, and (right) Marissa Vang, a peer portfolio fellow, after one of our monthly meetings. |
My third year at DU, I joined the club Latinos Unidos.
This club is for Latinx students and allies. It has been a great decision. These people who share a common background and love for Latin culture have been rays of sunshine in my life. This photo to the right was taken just after getting our LU long sleeve shirts at our Carnaval fundraising event! The event was such a success and included Mexican food from a local latin supermarket, games, dancing, and a raffle with different gift baskets like a chunti basket, Easter basket, and more. |
