...where the brain and heart meet.
Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.
According to CASEL (the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning initiative), Social-Emotional Learning (aka SEL) is...
"the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals,
feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions."
CASEL is devoted to the research and implementation of social emotional learning in schools. They created a framework for systematic social and emotional learning to promote the concept in all areas of students' lives. This framework has five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The building on these soft skills in the classroom through SEL curriculum reach outwards onto the entire school, district, community, and students' home lives.

Spring 2019, I completed my capstone project focused on Social Emotional Learning.
